Purebloods come from long ancient lines of purebloods, which have been held intact by marriage between 'purebloods'. Purebloods families could even go back thousand years into the past.
The most extreme purebloods can even believe that 'purebloods' are a separate race from muggles. Hence they believe they are above muggles and half-breeds, and sometimes even consider muggles as 'beasts'.
- Half-bloods -
A witch or wizard with at least one wizarding parent but at least one Muggle parent or grandparent.
When your Halfblood, it doesn't mean one parents has to be a muggle. It could be your parents are both wizards, but both Half-bloods as well. Much of the wizarding world falls into this category. Without marrying muggles, the wizarding race might have died out.
